This year, the 38th edition of the Copa del Rey Mapfre in the Royal Club Nautico of Palma, for the first time 12 women's only teams are competing against each other. For the first time in the history of the regatta, a women's team will be given the opportunity to be in the podium. In the sporty Viper640 one-design type, the Spanish two-time Olympic medal winner Natalia Via-Dufresne sails as one of the favourites. She is currently in the lead with her team. According to the new classification system, the races of the last 2 days have been counted as qualifying races and count as one race in the grand total; meaning that the winners get one point, the second placed two points, etc. This system makes the last days of the regatta particularly exciting, as it gives all participants the chance to reach the podium.

Copa del Rey Mapfre:

A total of 130 yachts in 11 classes from around the world sail against each other on the 38th Copa del Rey, including the Spanish King Felipe on AIFOS and the Norwegian King Harald on FRAM XVIII in the ClubSwan50 class.
